Flexible inspection robot for water pipes
A third of the drinking water in Europe disappears on the way to the tap. To find worst pipes and leaks is both expensive and difficult. Luckily there is new technologies emerging, such as Track.
Inventas, together with SINTEF ICT and Breivoll Inspection Technologies, has developed a flexible robot that can detect leaks in water pipes. The robot is equipped with multiple cameras and ultrasonic sensors that measure the thickness of the tubes and quickly reveals where the potential leaks may occur.
The robot is designed to mimic a worm and is designed so that it can easily negotiate 90 degree bends and moves with minimal contact with the tube walls, to not stir up the sediment and rust.
